Catto is a hard-working kitty who delivers mail to the residents of Cat Town. Catto was created using Blender and will be the player character of our upcoming game "Catto's Post Office".
I had initially thought modelling the satchel would be an easy task, but I had forgotten that drawing a sketch is very different to modelling an object in 3D. I couldn't just draw a few lines to complete a satchel as I did in my sketch. I had to think about the placement of the bag and how the straps would go around the character's body. It had to be on the character, but not overlap with any meshes such as the shirt and the face.
The rigging and animation and process was a new challenge that I had to face as I had very little experience. Thankfully, Catto is a simple character that doesn't require detailed movements, which made the rigging process a tiny bit easier to do. Even with an automatic skinning tool in Blender, I had to manually adjust a lot of the joints to make sure everything was animating smoothly.
Overall, I didn't enjoy the rigging and animating process as much as modelling and texturing, but watching a character I made come to life in-game felt very fulfilling.
